NICE Matters

14th November

It has been a busy time for Nairn Improvement Community Enterprise since the very successful public meeting and launch of the business plan on October 12th.

Presentations and discussions have taken place at Auldearn, Croy, East Nairnshire, Cawdor Nairn West, River and Suburban Community Councils. Nairn Rotary have expressed interest in supporting the Town Centre project.

The Youth Forum organiser has been contacted to ask how young people in the town can be engaged. The NICE chairman met with the Highland Council leader and next up is a meeting with Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

There is very good news about funding, as our grant application for £10,000 from ‘Awards for All’ has been approved to do a feasibility study on the old Social Work building. We are also bidding for a grant from the Highland Council Discretionary Fund.

As HC officials have recently placed the Town Centre on the open market for developers, a  ‘Note of Interest’ is being drawn up to try to prevent the loss of this key area for town centre regeneration.

Membership is now a very encouraging 597 plus the Association of Nairn Businesses, 2 Community Councils and Nairn Ceilidh Group already signed up as Associates. If each member can encourage another one or two friends and family to join then we’ll reach our target!

We are in the process of setting up four Working Groups to think about Wetlands & Environmental Issues; Riverside Projects; Sports & Recreation; Tourism & Business.  More about these shortly when the groups have been established.

We’ve had some very good suggestions from members. Please e-mail or write with your own ideas and suggestions. All contact information is on www.nicenairn.org.uk, as is the Business Plan and ‘Vision’, and we are also on Facebook and Twitter.

We’ll also have an information stall at Sainsbury’s on 21st November, so if you are passing, stop and say hello – and perhaps pick up a few blank forms for you friends.

Best regards,

The PR and Communications team
